The basic formula
If you earn $25 per hour, work 40 hours per week and are paid for 52 weeks, the estimate is $52,000 per year. The arithmetic is simple; choosing the right schedule is the important part.
When the 2,080-hour shortcut works
Multiplying an hourly wage by 2,080 is equivalent to 40 hours × 52 weeks. It is useful for a standard full-time schedule, but it can overstate pay for part-time workers, seasonal employees or anyone with unpaid weeks.
Monthly and biweekly estimates
Once annual gross pay is known, dividing by 12 gives a monthly equivalent and dividing by 26 gives a biweekly equivalent. Real payroll checks can vary because hourly workers may not work exactly the same number of hours every pay period.
What the conversion does not include
The result does not automatically add overtime, commissions, bonuses, shift premiums or tips, and it does not subtract taxes or benefits. Treat it as a gross-pay comparison.
