How a Pay Raise Changes Your Salary

Translate a percentage raise into annual dollars, monthly pay and paycheck estimates.

Turn the percentage into dollars

Current salary × raise percentage = annual increase

A 5% raise on $60,000 is a $3,000 annual increase. Adding that increase produces a new salary of $63,000.

Raise example: a 5% raise on $60,000 adds $3,000 per year, bringing estimated annual gross pay to $63,000.

Small percentages can be meaningful

A percentage by itself can be hard to picture. Converting the raise into annual, monthly and biweekly amounts makes it easier to compare an offer with inflation, benefit changes or a different job opportunity.

Gross increase is not the same as net increase

The additional gross pay is subject to the same kinds of taxes and deductions that apply to other wages. Your bank deposit will not necessarily increase by the full gross amount.
